Growing up with Maureen is a beautiful account of one family’s journey through raising a child with severe health issues, while trying to manage jobs, family life and the maze of the healthcare system. I laughed, I cried, but mostly I was inspired by their family’s love that grew stronger despite the difficult challenges. Barney Thomas takes the reader along on their day-to-day life with Maureen making you feeling like you know her intimately; her smile, her tenacity and how she loved to give hugs and play jokes on others. Her passing breaks year heart into a million pieces as does the chapter from her big brother, but their journey with Maureen is not over! It’s not only a poignant look back at the way these two parents found strength in raising and fighting for their medically fragile daughter through her sixteen years of life; it’s also a testament to the love that exists forever, and the ways that Maureen has continued to come through the spirit world since her passing. Barney Thomas and his wife Barbara are both mediums, ministers and chiropractors, and this book describes the myriad ways Maureen’s legacy has brought them a deeper spiritual faith and how they have grown as a result of her presence in their lives.
